The hard question

What should our prenup budget include?

Price examples, not a national average

Checked October 5, 2026: HelloPrenup lists $599 for an online agreement for a couple without individual representation, and $2,197 for a package with two attorneys. Check availability and included services for your state.

Tannen Law Group in Georgia lists $3,000 for a standard prenup. Do not assume this includes two independent lawyers. These are different scopes, not provider recommendations or guarantees.

Why individualized work may cost more

Assets, businesses, disputed preferences, negotiation rounds, translations, and multiple jurisdictions affect the quote. Obtain a written estimate for your circumstances rather than treating an advertised price as a ceiling.

Ask about flat fees, hourly billing, and retainers. A retainer may pay for billed hours rather than cover the entire project.

Questions before paying

Ask for included services and possible extras in writing. Confirm separate review for the other partner: a couple’s total budget is not the same as one lawyer’s bill.

  • Drafting, review, or both?
  • How many revision and negotiation rounds?
  • Are translation, notarization, and valuations extra?
  • What happens if we cannot agree or postpone the wedding?
